Question: Is LIPOSUCTION only offered by Plastic Surgeons?
Answer: Any physician is legally permitted to do liposuction in their office/facility. However, hospitals have strict guidelines and training requirements to offersurgical procedures. Therefore, only plastic surgeons are permitted to perform liposuction in the hospital because of their extensive training in body contouring. Liposuction is a REAL surgical procedure with real risks and complications.
Truly understanding the anatomy and knowing how to choose the right procedure for the right patient is crucial. Buyer beware of internists, OB/GYN’s, cardiologists, and other non- plastic surgeons who attended a “weekend course” in liposuction and then offer this in their office.
