What is Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is a purified protein that is administered in a simple, nonsurgical procedure to temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
How does it work?
Low doses are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible for the frown lines between the brows. The injection blocks the release of the chemical that causes these muscles to contract. This muscle relaxation allows the skin to appear smooth.
How quickly will I see results?
Within a couple days you may notice a softening in the area that was treated. It takes several days for the Botox® to be processed by the muscle and for full relaxation to take effect.
How long do the results last?
Visible results have been shown to last up to 4 months. Your own results may vary – be sure to talk to your physician about what you can expect and when to schedule your next appointment.
Does it matter where I go or who administers the Botox® Cosmetic?
Yes. Although Botox® Cosmetic is a safe and proven effective treatment, complications can occur. It is extremely important to have trust and a good relationship with the physician you choose.
Botox® Cosmetic is administered by many health care providers with vastly different levels of training. One must consider this when choosing where and from whom to receive treatment. Dr. Polecritti is a plastic surgeon with extensive training in the anatomy of the face. This training and experience enables him to administer the injection correctly in an extremely precise and effective manner.
