Ask the Plastic Surgeon: What Are The Different Types of Breast Surgeries Available?
As we prepare for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we thought this topic was very timely. There are many different types of breast surgeries, and often the surgeries are performed together, as in the case of a breast augmentation and breast lift (Mastopexy).
Breast surgery is one of our many specialties and we use all of the current cutting edge techniques to provide customized beautiful results for our patients.
Breast Augmentation:
Breast augmentation surgery, also known as augmentation mammaplasty, is the surgical placement of breast implants to increase fullness and improve symmetry of the breasts, or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy. This procedure helps to increase fullness of your breasts as well as improve the balance and proportion of your figure.
Breast Lift: Breast lift, or mastopexy, surgery raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. A great procedure post pregnancy and breast feeding, as it helps to restore the volume that may have been lost during that time.

Breast Reduction:
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts. Often time, a breast lift will be performed during reduction surgery to help if there is loss of volume post reduction.
Breast Reconstruction:
Breast reconstruction is a procedure that, through several plastic surgery techniques, attempts to restore a breast to near normal shape, appearance and size following mastectomy.
